Picking the right used F-150
Engines. The 2.7 EcoBoost is the efficient daily driver. The 3.5 EcoBoost is the tow engine. The 5.0 V8 is the one people ask for by name. The 3.3 V6 is the fleet workhorse. None of them is a bad choice; the wrong one is the one that does not match how you use the truck.
Cab and bed. SuperCrew with the 5.5-foot bed is the Southern Maryland favorite for families who tow. SuperCab with the 6.5-foot bed is the work compromise. Regular cab long bed shows up from fleets and farms.
Trims. XL and XLT are value. Lariat adds leather and tech. King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited are the luxury trucks. Raptor and Tremor are their own thing. Tell me your budget and I will tell you which trim it buys.
What I check on every used F-150
- Tow package and axle ratio from the VIN, so the rating I quote is real.
- Frame, hitch, and rear suspension for rust on trucks that lived near the water.
- 4x4 operation in 4H and 4L.
- Service records. Local one-owner trucks with records get sold first, usually by text, before they hit the website.
Certified or not?
A Ford Certified F-150 comes with a multi-point inspection, comprehensive limited warranty, and extended powertrain coverage. If you plan to keep the truck past 100,000 miles, the certification often pays for itself. I will show you both options on the same truck when I can.
Text me your F-150 budget and must-haves and I will send the two or three that fit, with video.
